Mastering is the last step in the music making process. It is an opportunity - when the final mix has been fully approved by yourself and/or everyone on your team and everyone is happy with it, the last step is to have a highly skilled and ear trained mastering engineer come and listen to your mix for the first time with a fresh perspective. This includes the mastering engineer listening on a highly impressive (and not cheap!) monitoring system, to ensure the absolute best translation onto other sound systems and devices. This means your song will sound amazing on all platforms, phones, headphones, clubs, speakers, music playback systems, etc. We will accomplish two things: your music will sound quality controlled, polished, and at its full potential, and we will work with you to ensure you are completely satisfied by the end of the process. This is why we never charge extra for revisions or changes, even though we never usually get asked for any. Mastering is also never usually about “loudness” above all things, although we are perfectly capable of creating loud records and have been doing so for some time now, without sacrificing any of the sound quality in the process. The changes are less about making stuff instantly “bright and loud” like a quick and easy fix (or a sledgehammer), and more about bringing out what’s best in your mix through careful tweaks (like a surgeon’s tools), and being careful not to bring out what you don’t love, or even minimising that entirely through the exposure of what’s best in the mix.
